The process of making "Blue labradorite thistle pendant"

June 29, 2018

Here is the process of the "Blue labradorite thistle pendant"

First I make the bezel and the foundational frame. The edges of the frame are rounded because I will apply chisel lines on them.

I saw the leaves out of sterling silver sheet.

Then I fix them on a pich bowl to engrave the veins.

By the way black pitch is very common in Japan.

The stone bezel is fixed to the frame previously.

It's difficult for you to see in this photo but there is a support scroll under the leaves to fix the bezel and the leaves tightly.

Without it the soldering work of the leaves would be more difficult.

Then I solder the leaves that have been warped, polished, and textured.

You see the frame is already applied lines by a chisel.

Other components are soldered. Because there are many components and they are sterling silver, the soldering is a bit delicate and you need to do it very carefully.

I used 4 types of solders to assemble them all including the bail.

Then I set the stone and appy LOS patina.

This is the completed one.

After I applied the patina, I wash it out a bit to develope the contrast of the leaves.

I think it should be washed out a bit more but I leave it for the customer.

Please enjoy the aging.
